Supporting Scotland's Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

The Ecosystem Fund supports organisations working to strengthen Scotland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The fund will support high impact projects that help founders access the skills, knowledge, networks and opportunities they need to thrive. The Fund encourages innovative, inclusive and collaborative activity that underpins in the current start up support landscape.

Who can apply?

The Fund is open to organisations headquartered in Scotland or with significant operations here. Eligible applicants include:

  • Ecosystem builders – incubators, accelerators, enterprise support organisations and entrepreneurial communities.
  • Industry bodies, charities and third-sector groups supporting early stage entrepreneurial activity.
  • Universities, colleges and training providers developing entrepreneurship initiatives.
  • Established companies and private organisations delivering new partnership-based activity with startups or education partners.

Applications may be submitted individually or as part of a collaboration, though only one organisation can act as the Lead Applicant.

What the fund supports

The Fund is aimed at new projects or the significant development/expansion of existing activity that improves Scotland’s startup ecosystem. Examples of eligible project types include:

  • Community-building and networking activity
  • Programmes connecting Scottish startups to international markets
  • Initiatives improving access to investment
  • Skills development, mentoring and expert guidance
  • Activities that support underserved groups and broaden accessibility
  • Projects that enhance collaboration, innovation and ecosystem connectivity
  • Creation of resources, toolkits or materials that strengthen entrepreneurial support provision

The Fund does not support direct grants to individual businesses, ongoing core activity, business as usual costs or projects that do not meaningfully expand or improve existing provision.

Funding Available

Projects can apply for up to £40,000, with all activity and spend required to be completed by 31 March 2027.
